Day 43: Where I Got to See My First K-pop performance!
(sorry in advance for the tilted video… I don’t know how to fix it)
I got to see Psy in concert on Thursday! And I love how I can say that and people actually know who I’m talking about! If I got to see Beast in concert, I’d be EVEN MORE thrilled, but no one reading this would understand my excitement (except Sam). Anyways, I got a free ticket to see Psy perform at the opening ceremony of Daegu’s international sports festival. There were long speeches (which I missed cause I had a class till 6:30), a parade of the athletes, a dance number, women in dresses waving large LED flowers around, fireworks, and Psy.
I had no idea what he was saying in between his songs, but the crowd went crazy. I was sitting beside a 60-year-old Korean man who was completely losing it during every song. It was hilarious to see him try to horse dance in the 1 foot square space he had. Our little group of foreign teachers were sitting as far away from the stage as we could possibly be, but I could still see the twinkling of Psy’s be-dazzled suit from my seat in the nosebleeds, and I watched him jump around the stage and work the crowd from the jumbotron. I was eagerly anticipating hearing his last single (and the only other Psy song that I know), but alas, I was disappointed. Gangnam Style was still great fun.
It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. I want more k-pop concerts! MOOOOORRRREEEEE!!!!
